A Blue Crush Reboot Will Be Crashing Down On Us Soon

Watching films about the ocean or people surfing through the
blue is the most relaxing form of media out there, and it’s
about time a reboot tried catching some waves.

According to The Hollywood
Reporter, NBC is developing a TV drama based on the 2002 film
Blue Crush, who made most of us aware of who Kate
Bosworth is, even if we later forgot. It’s being
penned by Hannah Schneider of Reign, and will
essentially follow the exact same plot as the film, but in a
series:

In the wake of a tragic accident, a surfer works to revive
her career and bring pride to a local community threatened by
commercialism and dangerous surf politics. Even in paradise,
you never know what chaos is brewing inside the barrel.

THR notes that reboots are in “high demand,” and suggests
viewer’s nostalgic attachment to material gives it an edge over
the 450 scripted shows out
there
. My god. It took 450 shows, the majority of
which seem to be reboots or revivals, for producers to create
something I might actually watch; I don’t even smoke weed, but
this is the occasion.

Aside from that scene where someone steps on a used condom, the
most memorable aspect of the movie is the ocean itself, rising
and falling, holding up boards, dreams, and the unlikely
triumph over the blue crush of Mother Nature. This is the
escape we need! Here’s the original trailer for some of that
sweet beach bliss/angsty drama:

And here’s the trailer for The Endless Summer if you
want to just watch more people surf, which I definitely do:

Okay, one more:
