Daniel Day-Lewis Is Retiring From Acting

Daniel Day-Lewis—who is perhaps best known for
winning Oscars and never breaking character (even when he’s not
on set)—is quitting acting, Variety reports.

There will be one more film released with Day-Lewis in it, and
that’s it. Mark your calendars for December 25, 2017 to see the
untitled Paul Thomas Anderson-directed drama that’s to be the
actor’s last, then go drink a milkshake and cry about it.

The 60-year-old actor did not immediately provide a reason for
his retirement. A spokesperson for Day-Lewis said in a
statement, “Daniel Day-Lewis will no longer be working as an
actor. He is immensely grateful to all of his collaborators and
audiences over the many years. This is a private decision and
neither he nor his representatives will make any further
comment on this subject.”

This news has made me quite melancholy. I guess a part of me
always assumed that if I lived in New York City long enough I’d
run into Day-Lewis at a bar pretending to be a 19th century
Manhattan gang leader, or one of America’s most beloved
presidents. Dreams die fast.

Halle Berry is sick of being romantically
linked to approximately 100 people just because she’s kind
enough to let strangers take her picture.

The Oscar-winning actress said during a talk at Cannes Lions
that she blames social media for pubic’s outsized conception of
her dating life. “There are some things that an kill a brand,
things that can happen today because of social media,” said
Berry. “Everyone is allowed to have an opinion but that power
can be misused.”

Berry went on to explain:

“If I am having dinner with a friend, and a man comes up and
asks to take a picture, most times I will always say, ‘Of
course!’…But then that person posts the picture on the social
media as if I am dating that person, and suddenly I am
dating, like, 100 people.”

Ugh, men.
